Answer Engine Optimisation
Get your brand cited in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity
AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) are the practice of making your brand appear and be cited in AI-generated answers — Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. Adshouz audits how AI describes you today, fixes your entity data, rewrites key pages as quotable answers, adds schema and tracks AI visibility monthly.

What is AEO, and how is it different from SEO?
AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) is the work of getting your brand mentioned and cited when AI systems and search features answer questions — Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and voice assistants.
SEO aims to rank your pages; AEO aims to have your brand used in the answer itself. They share a foundation — crawlable, trustworthy, well-structured content — but AEO puts extra weight on direct answers, entity consistency and third-party mentions.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) is the name often used for the generative-AI side of this work. We treat AEO and GEO as one discipline.
| Traditional SEO | AEO / GEO | |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Rank pages in the top results | Be named and cited inside the AI answer |
| Where you appear | Google and Bing results pages | AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, voice assistants |
| What wins | Relevance, links, technical health | Clear answers, entity consistency, trusted mentions, structured data |
| How it’s measured | Rankings, clicks, organic leads | Mentions, citations, accuracy, AI referral traffic |
| Content style | Comprehensive pages for a keyword | Direct answers, tables, steps, sourced facts |
Our AEO framework
How we get brands into AI answers
- 01
Entity clarity
AI systems need to know exactly who you are. We write one canonical brand description and make your name, services, location, founders and facts consistent across your site, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, directories, Wikidata and review sites.
- 02
Answer-first content
Every key page opens with a direct 40–60 word answer to its main question, then question-style headings, tables, numbered steps and sourced numbers — the formats AI answers lift from.
- 03
Structured data
Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage, Article and Person schema generated from your content, validated and kept in sync with what’s on the page.
- 04
Crawlability for AI
Server-rendered HTML that bots can read without JavaScript, robots.txt rules that allow the AI crawlers you want, an llms.txt summary and a clean sitemap.
- 05
Third-party authority
AI answers lean on what others say about you. We earn mentions, reviews and citations on the sources AI tools trust for your category — publications, directories, review platforms and communities.
- 06
Prompt tracking
A fixed set of real buyer prompts, checked every month across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews, so you can see mentions, citations and accuracy change over time.

FAQ
AEO questions, answered
What is AEO?
AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) is the work of getting your brand mentioned and cited when AI systems and search features answer questions — Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and voice assistants.
How is AEO different from SEO?
SEO aims to rank your pages; AEO aims to have your brand used in the answer itself. They share a foundation — crawlable, trustworthy, well-structured content — but AEO puts extra weight on direct answers, entity consistency and third-party mentions.
How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?
Make sure your brand is described consistently across your site and trusted third-party sources, publish clear answers to the questions buyers ask, earn reviews and mentions in your category, and keep pages crawlable. No one can guarantee a recommendation, but these steps measurably improve the odds.
How do I appear in Google AI Overviews?
Google says there are no special requirements beyond normal SEO best practice: indexable pages, helpful content and good page experience. In practice, pages that answer the question directly and clearly, with supporting detail, are the ones most often linked.
What is included in the free AI visibility audit?
We run a set of buyer questions for your category through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and send you a short report: whether you’re mentioned, who is mentioned instead, which sources are cited, and the three most important fixes.
How long does AEO take to work?
AI tools that search the live web can reflect on-site and entity fixes within weeks. Changes in what models know about your brand from training take longer and depend on how widely the improved information spreads.
Do I need AEO if I already rank well on Google?
Ranking well is a strong head start, because AI answers often draw on top-ranking pages. But rankings don’t guarantee you’re named in the answer — the audit shows whether there’s a gap.
Should I block AI crawlers like GPTBot and ClaudeBot?
If you want to be cited in AI answers, generally no. Blocking them reduces the chance your content is retrieved or quoted. Some publishers block training crawlers but allow search and user-triggered crawlers; we help you choose.
