Performance Marketing

Performance Max campaigns, set up so automation works for you

The short answer

Performance Max (PMax) is a Google Ads campaign type that uses AI to place your ads across Search, YouTube, Display, Gmail, Discover and Maps from one budget. It works only as well as the data you give it. Adshouz sets up PMax with clean conversion signals, sensible asset groups, brand exclusions and product segmentation.

What you get

What our Performance Max Campaigns service includes

  • Conversion signal clean-up

Primary conversions limited to real purchases or qualified leads; values set by margin where possible.

  • Asset groups by audience

Separate creative, headlines and audience signals for distinct customer types or product lines.

  • Feed & listing groups

Products split by margin, best-sellers and price band so budget goes where profit is.

  • Brand exclusions

Stop PMax from taking credit for branded searches you’d win anyway.

  • Creative production

Images, logos, headlines and short videos in every size PMax needs, so Google doesn’t auto-generate weak assets.

  • Insight reporting

Search term categories, channel split scripts and asset performance reviewed every week.

Why does Performance Max sometimes look great but not grow sales?

PMax can over-credit itself by capturing branded searches and remarketing visitors who would have bought anyway. Brand exclusions, separate brand Search campaigns and looking at total sales — not just PMax-reported conversions — show whether it’s adding new revenue.

Process

How we deliver Performance Max Campaigns

  1. Step 1: Check readiness

Confirm conversion tracking, feed quality and budget are enough for PMax to learn.

  2. Step 2: Structure

Plan campaigns and asset groups by margin, product line or audience — not one campaign for everything.

  3. Step 3: Launch with guardrails

Brand exclusions, negative keywords at account level, URL expansion rules and realistic targets.

  4. Step 4: Optimise

Refresh assets, adjust ROAS/CPA targets and rebalance budgets based on incremental results.

Results

How we measure success

We agree the numbers that matter before we start, and report on them every week.
  • Cost per qualified lead

Leads your sales team accepts, not form fills.

  • ROAS & contribution margin

Revenue after ad spend and product cost.

  • CAC payback

How many months until a customer pays back their acquisition cost.

  • AI answer share

How often AI assistants mention you for your category’s questions.

Detailed case studies are shared on request during your audit call, with client permission. Ask for one in your industry.

FAQ

Questions about Performance Max Campaigns

Is Performance Max good for lead generation?

It can be, but only with offline conversion imports or strong lead qualification, otherwise it tends to optimise for cheap, low-quality form fills.

Should PMax replace my Search campaigns?

Usually not. Keep Search for core and brand keywords where you want control, and use PMax to find extra demand across Google’s other channels.

How long is the PMax learning period?

Typically one to two weeks, and longer for low-volume accounts. Big changes to budgets or targets restart learning, so we change things gradually.

Do I need video for Performance Max?

You should provide it. If you don’t, Google auto-generates video from your images, which rarely looks good. Simple 15–30 second edits are enough to start.

Can I see which search terms PMax uses?

Partly. Google shows search term categories and insights, and scripts can reveal more about channel split. We review these weekly.

What ROAS target should I set?

One based on your margins. We work back from contribution margin to the minimum ROAS that’s profitable, then set targets slightly above it while the campaign learns.
